Vizuri ("we," "us," "our," or "Company") is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparent data practices.

This Privacy Policy applies to all Vizuri users (customers and contractors) in the Republic of Kenya.

Vizuri complies with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) guidelines.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Information You Provide Directly

Account Registration:

  • Full name
  • Phone number (M-Pesa registered)
  • Email address (optional)
  • Location area (Nairobi area, neighborhood, etc.)
  • User type (customer or contractor)
  • Profile photo (optional)

For Contractors Only:

  • Government ID type (national ID, passport, work permit)
  • Government ID number
  • Selfie (for identity verification)
  • Professional background/experience
  • Services offered
  • Hourly or project rates
  • Bank account for payouts (M-Pesa number)

For Customers Only:

  • Service request details
  • Photos of the space/item needing service
  • Payment authorization (M-Pesa)

Job-Related Information:

  • Job descriptions and details
  • Messages between customers and contractors
  • Photos/videos of work completed
  • Ratings and reviews
  • Dispute reports and evidence

Communication:

  • Messages you send through Vizuri
  • Support requests and responses
  • Feedback you provide

Information We Collect Automatically

Device Information:

  • Device type (iPhone, Android, laptop, etc.)
  • Operating system version
  • Mobile app version
  • Device identifiers

Usage Information:

  • Pages or features you access
  • Time spent on Vizuri
  • Searches you perform
  • Jobs you view or apply for
  • Links you click

Location Information:

  • Your approximate location (city/neighborhood level)
  • We do NOT track real-time GPS location
  • We use this only to match customers with nearby contractors
  • You can adjust location privacy in settings

Payment Information:

  • M-Pesa transaction ID (not full M-Pesa details)
  • Payment status (pending, completed, refunded)
  • Amount paid
  • Date of payment

Browser & Technical Data:

  • Browser type and version
  • IP address
  • Internet service provider
  • Time zone
  • Pages visited before/after Vizuri

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

To Provide Services

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Match customers with contractors
  • Process payments via M-Pesa escrow
  • Complete job bookings and transactions
  • Provide customer support
  • Handle disputes and refunds

To Verify Contractors

We use contractor information to:

  • Verify government ID and prevent fraud
  • Conduct background checks (criminal history, financial history)
  • Ensure contractor eligibility
  • Maintain platform safety and integrity

To Improve Vizuri

We use information to:

  • Understand how customers and contractors use Vizuri
  • Improve features and user experience
  • Fix bugs and technical issues
  • Develop new services
  • Conduct analytics and market research

To Communicate With You

We send you:

  • Service updates (job confirmations, payment status, support responses)
  • Marketing emails (if you've opted in)
  • Safety alerts (suspicious activity, account security)
  • Legal notices (policy changes, Terms updates)

You can opt out of marketing emails anytime.

To Protect Our Platform

We use information to:

  • Detect and prevent fraud
  • Investigate policy violations
  • Enforce our Terms of Service

3. BACKGROUND CHECKS (CONTRACTORS ONLY)

How Background Checks Work

We conduct background checks on all contractors using a licensed Kenya-based background check provider.

We check for:

  • Criminal history
  • Financial history
  • Fraud records
  • Dangerous individuals lists

We do NOT check:

  • Medical records
  • Credit score
  • Education verification

Your Rights

As a contractor, you have the right to:

  • Know that a background check is being conducted
  • Know what information is being checked
  • Request a copy of your background check results
  • Dispute inaccurate information with the background check provider
  • Appeal rejection if you believe information is wrong

4. M-PESA & PAYMENT INFORMATION

How We Handle M-Pesa Data

  • We use SafariCom's M-Pesa API for payments
  • We store your M-Pesa transaction ID (not account details)
  • We store payment amount and status
  • We do NOT store your M-Pesa PIN or full account details

Who Sees Your M-Pesa Number

Only when you book a job:

  • The contractor sees your phone number (to contact you about the job)
  • Vizuri team sees payment info for escrow and dispute resolution

Payment Security

  • M-Pesa is SafariCom's secure payment system
  • Vizuri doesn't hold your funds—M-Pesa holds escrow
  • Transactions are encrypted
  • Your data is protected by M-Pesa security standards

5. LOCATION DATA

How We Use Location

We collect your approximate location (neighborhood level) to:

  • Match customers with nearby contractors
  • Show relevant job opportunities
  • Improve service quality in your area
  • Prevent fraud

We Do NOT

  • Track your real-time GPS location
  • Know your exact address (only general area)
  • Share your location with other users
  • Use location for marketing purposes

Adjusting Location Privacy

You can:

  • Disable location sharing in app settings
  • Change your location area manually
  • Contact support to adjust privacy preferences

6. SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

We DO Share Information With

Contractors (when you book a job):

  • Your name and phone number
  • Your location area
  • Your job description
  • Photos you uploaded

Customers (when you accept a job):

  • Your name and phone number
  • Your rating and reviews
  • Your location area
  • Photos of your work

M-Pesa/SafariCom:

  • For payment processing only
  • Transaction information only

Our Service Providers:

  • Background check company (contractors only)
  • Analytics company (anonymized data only)
  • Cloud hosting provider (all data encrypted)
  • Customer support platform (encrypted data)

Law Enforcement:

  • Only if required by Kenya law
  • Only with proper legal process
  • We notify you unless legally prohibited

We DO NOT Share Information With

  • Marketing companies
  • Data brokers
  • Advertisers (except anonymized analytics)
  • Third parties for profit
  • Other companies for their purposes

7. DATA RETENTION

How Long We Keep Your Data

Active Accounts:

  • We keep your data as long as your account is active
  • You can request deletion anytime

Completed Transactions:

  • Payment records: 7 years (legal requirement)
  • Ratings and reviews: Permanent (unless removed for policy violation)
  • Job history: Permanent (for reputation building)

Closed Accounts:

  • Personal data deleted within 30 days
  • Payment records retained for 7 years (legal requirement)
  • You can request earlier deletion (except legally required data)

8. YOUR RIGHTS

As a person whose data is processed in Kenya, you have the right to:

  • Free first request per year

  • We must delete within 14 days (except legally required data)
  • This closes your account

  • We provide within 14 days

  • We must stop unless we have legal grounds to continue

  • Withdrawal doesn't affect past uses
  • We stop using data going forward

9. DATA SECURITY

How We Protect Your Data

  • Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
  • Access Control: Only authorized employees can access personal data
  • Firewalls: Vizuri systems are protected by firewalls and security software
  • Regular Audits: We regularly audit security practices
  • Secure Servers: Data is stored on secure, encrypted servers

What We CAN'T Guarantee

No system is 100% secure. While we work hard to protect your data:

  • Hacking, fraud, or theft may occur
  • We cannot guarantee absolute security
  • You use Vizuri at your own risk

If Your Data Is Breached

If we discover your data has been compromised:

  1. We notify you within 24 hours
  2. We notify ODPC within 72 hours
  3. We explain what happened and what we're doing
  4. We provide security recommendations

10. COOKIES & TRACKING

Cookies

We use cookies to:

  • Remember you when you return
  • Keep you logged in
  • Track how you use Vizuri
  • Remember your preferences

Your Cookie Choices

Most browsers let you:

  • Block all cookies
  • Delete cookies regularly
  • Be notified when sites set cookies

Note: Blocking cookies may prevent Vizuri from working properly.

Tracking Technologies

We use analytics to understand:

  • How many people use Vizuri
  • Which features are popular
  • How long people stay on Vizuri
  • Where our users are located

This data is anonymized and cannot identify you.

11. CHILDREN & MINORS

Vizuri is not intended for anyone under 18 years old.

We do not knowingly collect data from minors (anyone under 18).

If we discover we've collected data from a minor:

  • We delete it immediately
  • We notify parents/guardians
  • We may suspend the account

12. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

All Vizuri data is stored and processed in Kenya.

Vizuri may link to external websites (SafariCom, news articles, etc.).

We are NOT responsible for:

16. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

When using Vizuri, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, truthful information
  • Not share your account with others
  • Keep your password confidential
  • Notify us immediately of security breaches
  • Not impersonate others
  • Not use Vizuri to commit fraud or illegal acts

Violating these may result in account termination and legal action.

17. LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING

  • You need a Vizuri account to book services
  • We must have your data to connect you with contractors

2. Contractual Obligation

  • Payment processing requires data
  • Dispute resolution requires data
  • Job completion requires data

  • We must comply with government requests
  • Financial records must be kept for 7 years

Background Check Results

  • Collected from licensed provider
  • Kept confidential
  • Not visible to customers
  • Retained for 7 years

Biometric Data (Selfie)

  • Collected for identity verification
  • Deleted after verification
  • Not used for facial recognition
  • Not shared with third parties

20. DISPUTE INFORMATION

When filing or responding to disputes, you may provide:

  • Photos of work/damage
  • Messages with contractor
  • Proof of payment
  • Other evidence

This information is:

  • Kept confidential
  • Used only for dispute resolution
  • Stored securely
  • Deleted after resolution
